Google is now following in Amazon's and Apple's footsteps by offering one free app a week.

Rather bizarrely, there's been no fanfare and if you want to find the free app you have to head into the 'Family' section of the store.

We're not sure if this will remain the case. It could be that the free app of the week promotion will run across a different section of Google Play per week - we'll just have to wait and see.

Right now the free app is Daniel Tiger Grr-ific Feelings - a collection of mini games for children that explores feelings.

To get the app for free, you have to follow the free app of the week link in the family section. If you go on the store page itself, the game is still listed at full price and charges you if you try to purchase it.

This is the first time Google has run a free app promotion so let's just hope it's growing pains. Head on over to Google Play to get the free app of the week right now.
Lifehacker

The first piece of new content for Pathfinder Adventures since Asmodee took over the publishing reigns is set to land on the App Store, Google Play Store, and Steam next week.

It's called The Rise of the Goblins, and it's a brand new campaign for you to sink your teeth into. It introduces two new characters, Poog and Raznak, as well as some other pretty nifty new bits and bobs.

There's a new adventure deck for the two characters, as well as goblin redesigns of all of the iconic Pathfinder characters. You'll also get a unique set of goblin-style digital dice, which sounds pretty cool to me.

The story of the campaign interweaves with the events of the original Rise of the Runelords campaign. You're sort of seeing it through the eyes of the bad guys, because everyone knows being bad can be fun.

Rise of the Goblins will be out on iOS, Android, and Steam next week, when it'll set you back $8.99. And if you buy the content on one platform, you'll be able to play it on the others too.

This isn't the end of the road for Pathfinder Adventures by any means though, with work currently underway on the next content pack. More word on that when we get it.

Following the success of their in-game Korn concert earlier this year AdventureQuest has teamed up with another band to perform another concert battle. This time around though they've swapped nu-metal for grunge as Alice In Chains will be the featured band this gig.

The event will run between now and the 30th November and will be accessible for new and old players alike. There are several options for getting into the event. Players can either get to it through the news screen, talking to an Alice in Chains promoter in town, via the Travel Crystal which will give you a Magic Concert Ticket. The promoter way sounds the most fun to me though.

The battle concert will be free for all players to enjoy, though much like the Korn version of this event, you will be able to buy a VIP package if you'd like. This will include Alice In Chains themed armour, weapons, pets, travel forms rare badges and musical items. It will also include a backstage pass so you can grab a virtual selfie with the band.

Much like with Korn, Alice In Chains will have their own stage monster you'll have to do battle with. You'll face off against the Ghost of Unsung Songs. She'll summon various creatures into the pit for you to contend with whilst you try and defeat her. Doing so will net you a giant treasure chest.

There will be numerous quests to complete in addition to battling monsters to the grunge soundtrack. There's also a chance you'll run into Thrash, who was the stage boss from the Korn event, too if you play through the gig battle enough times.

AdventureQuest 3D is available now on the App Store and Google Play. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
Nominate your Game of the Year for the Pocket Gamer People's Choice Award 2020

After a monumentally successful debut last August on Steam, the dark humour/strategy game Party Hard is coming to mobile in the near future in all its gruesome glory.

The synopsis of the game makes me love this game a little more than I should: "It's 3 AM. Your neighbours are having a loud party. Stop them." Why waste words on unimportant things, eh? The aim of the game is simple – stop the party by any means necessary.

Though very little information has been released about the game thus far (outside of its PC release, obviously) we do know that the game's UI and controls have been reworked for mobile.

So far they're looking to release Party Hard on iPad and iPhone and are currently calling for beta testers. You can find out more information on Party Hard here, or join if you've got the appropriate device check out their beta test here.

We'll keep you updated on any further information.

Your objective in Pendulum is right in the name: an arcade game about carefully swinging through markers and around hazards, in development for iOS.

Each of Pendulum's 100 levels features a collection of orbs to gather, by timing your swing across the screen. While controlling your arc is simple enough, stages will grow increasingly complex, as orbs begin to move in patterns and dangers like spikes force you to move carefully.

Pendulum is currently in development for iPad and iPhone. The developers has an open alpha test ongoing; you can try the game for yourself here.

We'll be sure to keep you updated as details on release date and trailers are released.

Captain Jim was silent for a space, gazing into the glowing fire in a quest of the bygones. Then, with a sigh, he resumed his story.
