Earlier this month, the federal Office of the Inspector General issued its audit report on the fraud risk management practices at the California Department of Housing and Community Development. Specifically, the audit

Larry Wilson: Hey, Olympics, L.A. is way more than the movies
17-08-2024 18:33 via ocregister.com
I had feared that the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris — and in Versailles, in Marseille, in Tahiti — would be, I don’t know, too French, or something, whatever that means.
And I like the French, mostly. As easy to stereotype as we are, but they are a great nation with a great culture. Perhaps I was just Olympics-indifferent because of the boring Tokyo games of four pandemic years ago.

Voters should reject the increase to the minimum wage and demand real solutions
17-08-2024 17:00 via ocregister.com
Voters should reject the increase to California’s minimum wage on the November ballot.
The measure would push the minimum wage from $15 per hour to $18 per hour by 2026. If this happened in a vacuum, it might make sense. But it isn’t happening in a vacuum, doesn’t make sense and the unintended consequences make it simply bad policy.
Increases in the minimum wage can lead to higher prices for consumers and reduced hours and job loss for minimum wage workers – all of which

17-08-2024 16:46 via ocregister.com
Blue flowers are appropriate for the summer because of the cooling ambiance they provide.
Speaking of which, are you familiar with blue lace, also known as throatwort (Trachelium caeruleum)? If not, perhaps you should be. In the Armstrong Nurseries plant catalog from 1936, it reads: “Many enjoy it more than any other plant in their garden … In late summer it produces great spreading panicles of bright blue flowers which keep for days in the house after cutting.”
