BILL JOHNSON AS EVERYONE KNEW HIM PASSED AWAY JULY 16, 2018. HE WAS 83 YEARS OLD, BORN IN WHITTER CALIF. TO JOHN AND OLETA JOHNSON HE WAS RAISED IN SOUTHERN CALIF. THEY MOVED TO SANTA BARBARA WHERE HE GRADUATED FROM SANTA BARBARA HIGH SCHOOL . HE THEN BEGAN HIS CAREER AT AGE 19 WITH STANDARD OIL CHEVRON IN LOMPOC WHERE HE HAD 2 GAS STATIONS ATER THAT IN THE 70'S HE CHANGED HIS PROFESSION AND BECAME A GRADUATE GEMOLOGIST-JEWELER OWNING JOHNSONS JEWELERS IN LOMPOC AND IN 1980 OPENING JOHNSONS JEWEL BOX IN SOLVANG UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT IN JAN. 2018. HE WAS AN AVID CAR COLLECTOR SPORTS FISHERMAN AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE VIKINGS IN SOLVANG. HE ATTENDED MANY CAR SHOWS WITH EDNA BROCK AND TRAVELED THE US TO HIS PLACE IN CABO SAN LUCAS WHERE HE LOVED FISHING. L.D. McVeigh
L. D. (Dee) McVeigh currently of Las Vegas, Nevada took his last ride into the sunset to be with his Lord and savior on June 5th, 2018 in Centennial Hills Hospital with his wife Helen and only child John R. McVeigh by his side. He was 94 years old.
During his working years Dee was a successful rancher and businessman working for the Samuel Edwards Associates in Ventura, CA., before moving to the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley where he worked as Manager of Rancho La Laguna for over forty years. The ranch was owned by Mr. & Mrs. Francis Sedgwick. Dee was part owner of a strip mall in the Santa Ynez Valley and operated his own Santa Ynez Barbeque Catering Business where he and Helen met many famous people through their work and travels around the world. He was an outgoing, friendly, happy person and never met a stranger. He loved his way of life on the ranch and enjoyed riding his horses every day working the cattle. He was truly a cowboy. He also was an avid hunter and loved the beauty of the outdoors, especially the mountains. He served as President of the Sportsmen's Club and was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. Dee is survived by his wife (Helen McVeigh) and their only child, John R. McVeigh, both of whom reside in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonzo and Ollie McVeigh, grandparents Manuel and Addie Moore, Aunt Mae Faulkner, and three Uncles Dewey, Bob and Ulus Moore.
Dee will be missed by all who met and knew him.

Alice Ann Elliott
Alice Ann Elliott was born on April 20, 1934 in Ventura California. She was raised by her parents, Alice and Willian Flynn on Orella Ranch near Venadito Canyon, Goleta. She loved the ocean and often talked about her swims, as a child, at El Capitan and Refugio Beaches. She attended Santa Ynez Valley High School and later graduated from Santa Barbara Business College. Alice loved to travel so she decided to become a flight attendant. She earned her wings with American Airlines and was stationed in Dallas, Texas. In Dallas, she met her future husband, John Elliott, who was a chef at Neiman Marcus Restaurant, at the time. Although John was from Brooklyn, New York, they decided to return to California to raise a family. They were married at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Santa Barbara on June 25, 1962. Alice then returned to the Santa Ynez Valley to raise her two children, Barbara and Charles (which she considered her biggest accomplishment). Alice is best known as the co-owner of award-winning Ballard Store Restaurant, which she opened with husband John in 1972. After almost 30 years of restaurant ownership, Alice finally retired to enjoy reading, cooking and politics. She passed peacefully at home on May 22, 2018. She will be sadly missed by her husband (John), daughter (Barbara), son (Charles) and grandchildren (Chelsi, Chandler and Chaise Elliott). She requested her services be private and were held at Oak Cemetery, Ballard.

Dennis J. Floyd

Dennis J. Floyd died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the age of 68.
Dennis was born April 19, 1950, in Oakland, California, to Leon and Angelina Floyd. He was raised and educated in the Oakland area, graduating from St. Mary's College High School in 1968.
Shortly after graduation Dennis enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged 12 years later as a staff sergeant. He was employed as an air traffic controller in California and Nevada during his 20-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Aviation and photography were passions of Dennis. A resident of Lompoc since 2013, he was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 25 years Liz Floyd; daughter Christine Floyd of Beaumont, California; stepdaughter and her husband Lindsay and Don Schroeder of Lompoc; stepson and his husband David Vaughn and Jason Montoya of San Diego, California; grandsons Alex and Aidan Schroeder; and brothers Alan Floyd of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Gary Floyd of Henderson, Nevada.
The graveside funeral service with military honors will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 2pm in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Charlotte A. Lowsley

Charlotte Lowsley was born December 6, 1931, to Hirva and Virginia Clark in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She died on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Lompoc, California, at the age of 87.
As a young girl, Charlotte lived on the elk refuge just outside Jackson Hole as her father was the ranger in charge of the preserve. After graduating from Jackson Hole High School, she married Richard Jones, and they moved to Washington State where the first of their sons, Richard, was born. Soon afterward, they were blessed to have a second son, Duane. After a period of time, they relocated to Carpinteria, California, where their third son Jeffrey came into the world. Unfortunately, her husband Richard passed away suddenly, leaving Charlotte and their three sons to face the world. Young Richard left home and was on his own while Duane and Jeffrey stayed. Soon thereafter, Duane married Beverly.
Then along came James “Jim” Lowsley. Jim took Charlotte and Jeffrey to Omaha, Nebraska. Jim and Charlotte were married in December 1975. Jim adopted Jeffrey to be his son while Jeffrey was still a young man. They transferred to Great Falls, Montana, for a couple of years, and in 1981 returned to the Central Coast at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Charlotte held many jobs but loved retail sales because she was in contact with a number of people. She was always a “people person” and would lovingly look after their needs. After moving back to the Central Coast, she worked for 43 years in a gift shop in Solvang, retiring in 2012. She will be missed.
Charlotte is predeceased by her father and mother, her sisters Sally and Yvonne, and her only brother Dermont. She is also survived by her loving husband Jim, son Richard of Lompoc, son Duane of Houston, Texas, son Jeffrey of Lompoc, stepdaughter Ann of Lompoc, California, and stepson James of Eugene Oregon. She has a surviving sister, Virginia, of Bremerton, Washington.
Even though she loved flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in her name.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at 2 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary followed by a reception. A private interment will be held at Santa Barbara Cemetery.

Albert "Al" Junion Workman

Albert “Al” Junior Workman, 89, of Lompoc, California, died peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018.
Albert was born in Panguitch, Utah, on November 16, 1928, to Sam Clark Workman and Geneva (Winsor) Workman. He was the fourth of 13 children. He graduated from Valley High School in Orderville, Utah, and joined the United States Navy in 1948, where he was trained in Aviation Electronics. In March 1950, he met the love of his life, Margaret (Peg) Hed. They married September 2, 1950.
Al & Peg had three children, Linda, Ron, and Terry. Al worked as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry for Hughes Aircraft, North American Aviation, the Glen L. Martin Company, Rocketdyne, and Lockheed, where he retired in 1990.
Al was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two stake missions. He also served as a ward missionary, stake mission president, assistant high priest's group leader, counselor to two different bishops, and was part of a church emergency communications system of amateur radio operators. He counted as most rewarding his work with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and went on many campouts and outings with his grandsons.
Al was also an aspiring example of love and service to his family. He was handy at fixing and figuring out how things worked and used his skills to bless many. He had a green thumb, was gifted in math and engineering, and had a love for astronomy and nature. He loved to teach his children and grandchildren about the stars and planets while camping at Refugio Beach.
Al was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Joyce (Hed) Workman; sisters Eva Workman, Geneva Workman, Sheila (Gus) Buhl, Yvonne (Leonard) Heaton, Patsy (Jerry) Jensen; and brother Clark Merle (Lorraine) Workman. He is survived by his daughters Linda (Marty) Wolcott of Lompoc; Tiffany (Steven) Escobedo of Antelope; his son, Ronald (Linda) Workman of Pismo Beach; his twelve grandchildren, Rachel (Loyd) VanSandt, Aryn (Greg) Wolf, Joshua (Annamarie Zetmeir) Wolcott, Lucinda (Leland) Miller, Jessica (Robert) Walsh, Hannah Wolcott, Dustin (JaRele) Workman, Opal (Scott) Bauldry, Grant (Michelle Buss) Riley, Devin Riley, Hunter (Mila Hristovski) Riley, Jeremy Riley; fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 8 am followed by a funeral service at 9 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1312 West Prune Avenue, Lompoc, California, with a graveside dedication following at 10:30 am at the Lompoc Cemetery.

Melvin John Kimlinger

Melvin John Kimlinger of Lompoc died on Monday, July 23, 2018, at the age of 64. Mel was born in Minnesota on March 7, 1954, to Nicholas and Genevive Lucas. He spent 40 years working for the United States Postal Service.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018, from 4 pm to 8 pm, with a service at 6:30 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 10 am, at La Purisima Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Mary Rowell

Mary Rowell, 54, of Lompoc passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2018, with her family by her side. She was born January 17, 1964 and raised in Lompoc. A 1982 graduate of Lompoc High School. She worked at Vandenberg during her career for Bechtel Engineering, Northrup Grumman, and Indyne. She was able to quit working to take care of her father in 2013.
She was diagnosed with AML (Leukemia) in 2015 and received an un-related stem cell transplant in 2016 that saved her life. She had been in remission for over 2+ years.
She was such a strong willed individual and an inspiration to all that knew her during her illness and recovery into remission.
As we all know, she was an avid cowgirl her whole life. She was putting on her cowgirl boots and swinging a rope before she could walk. She enjoyed Team Roping with her father Keith, and many friends. She earned numerous awards, belt buckles and saddles. She taught many young kids the pleasures of horsemanship. She was awarded the opportunity to compete at the Cow Palace in San Francisco for state finals during her senior High School year. When she wasn't trail riding or roping cattle with her horses “Bud” or “Thunder”, she enjoyed family camping vacations to the lake. She would often get “sea sick” when we towed our kids on the tube at the lake. She would trust a 1000lb animal (horse) with a mind of his own but didn't want her husband (Steve) to drive the boat so the tube that she and our 2 boys were on, would go outside the wake.
Mary is survived by Steve, her husband of 19yrs, sons; Justin and Chase, Mother in-law; Ann (Rick), Bother in-law; Trevor (Alison), nephews; Corey (Laura), and Brett, Aunt's; Mary, Jene, and Uncle; Donny (Sharon), Brother; Edward, Sister Sherrie (Doug), nephews; Brandon, Jacob and Mikayla.
She was preceded in death by her parents Keith and Joyce Brandon, and Uncle George Hall.
We would like to thank our family, friends and co-workers, that helped during her illness. We would also like to thank the unknown stem cell donor, Dr. Anthony Stein and his staff at City of Hope in Duarte Ca., Dr's and staff at Ridley-Tree Cancer Center and Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.

Margaret Florence Torres

On Sunday, July 15, 2018, the Lord called Margaret Florence (Harrel) Torres, by name, to be with Him in Heaven. Words cannot express how much she was loved. She will now reside with her husband and family in God's glorious kingdom. She went peacefully, in her sleep, and was happy until her final day.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore “Teddy” Torres. He was the love of her life.
Born May 31, 1928, to the late Gordon and Mary Harrel (of Ada, Oklahoma), she is survived by her brother Dr. Richard Harrel and his wife Beverly Harrel. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Minnie Lou and her brother Gordon Franklin Harrel.
Margaret is also survived by her children Sherie Vest, Marilou O'Louglin, Jayson Grimmer, Danny Torres, Sr., and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored.
A special acknowledgment to her daughter Sherie Vest and husband Jim Vest for all the support and loving care they provided in her final years. This allowed her to maintain her independence and remain in her home until her final day.
Florence went to Horace Mann High School and then East Central Teacher's College in Ada, Oklahoma. She began her teaching career in 1952 in Texas. She taught Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. She loved being a teacher, and she loved children. She taught at Fillmore Elementary School in Lompoc, California, for many years.
She was an excellent seamstress and loved to crochet blankets for family. Her hobbies included swimming, reading (an avid reader!), word search books, Hallmark movies and playing piano. She took piano lessons for 14 years and had a passion for music. She loved her hometown, Lompoc, California, and was a regular at the local library. She always chose to be happy and greeted others with a big smile. Her love and sweet spirit will forever remain in our minds and hearts.
Her service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 12:00 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Lompoc Public Library.

Debra L. Berg

Debra L. Berg peacefully passed away on July 18, 2018 after valiantly battling a lengthy illness. Although we grieve the loss of our beloved Debbie, we feel comforted by the knowledge that she is no longer in pain.
Debra Berg is survived by her son Cameron Berg; sisters Pamela MacKenzie, Maryse Wasmanski, and Eileen Ogden; brother Don MacKenzie; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Crawford and Corrine MacKenzie.
She was a long-time resident of Lompoc, CA, arriving at the age of 14 in 1969. Debbie graduated class of ‘72 from Cabrillo High School. She then began her 35+ year career working for Santa Barbara County Superior Court System. During this career she earned respect, admiration, and love of many coworkers whom she encountered.
Sadly, she retired early due to health issues. She often shared anonymous interesting dramatic or funny work stories.
Many youth and young adults considered her their second mother. With humility and expecting nothing in return, she poured her heart into providing support, resources, encouragement, and guidance to these people; changing the direction of their lives.
This world has given up an angel who will surely be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 3 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel.

Steven Thomas Elliott

Steven Thomas Elliott was born in July, 1947 in Sacramento, California to Steve Elliott and Anita Wright Elliott. Steve passed away suddenly on July 16 in Buellton ,California. He was the beloved husband of Anna Elliott, father of David Elliott and wife, Melissa and their three beautiful girls, Charlotte, Amelia, Isla. He leaves a sister, Judy Mogan. He was a Lompoc High School Graduate after which he joined the Navy at 17. He worked for ITT Federal Services Corporation and Indyne for thirty years. He loved life, reading, movies, tennis,and cars.. He was a good friend and always willing to help others. HE THEN BEGAN HIS CAREER AT AGE 19 WITH STANDARD OIL CHEVRON IN LOMPOC WHERE HE HAD 2 GAS STATIONS ATER THAT IN THE 70'S HE CHANGED HIS PROFESSION AND BECAME A GRADUATE GEMOLOGIST-JEWELER OWNING JOHNSONS JEWELERS IN LOMPOC AND IN 1980 OPENING JOHNSONS JEWEL BOX IN SOLVANG UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT IN JAN. 2018. HE WAS AN AVID CAR COLLECTOR SPORTS FISHERMAN AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE VIKINGS IN SOLVANG. HE ATTENDED MANY CAR SHOWS WITH EDNA BROCK AND TRAVELED THE US TO HIS PLACE IN CABO SAN LUCAS WHERE HE LOVED FISHING. L.D. McVeigh
L. D. (Dee) McVeigh currently of Las Vegas, Nevada took his last ride into the sunset to be with his Lord and savior on June 5th, 2018 in Centennial Hills Hospital with his wife Helen and only child John R. McVeigh by his side. He was 94 years old.
During his working years Dee was a successful rancher and businessman working for the Samuel Edwards Associates in Ventura, CA., before moving to the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley where he worked as Manager of Rancho La Laguna for over forty years. The ranch was owned by Mr. & Mrs. Francis Sedgwick. Dee was part owner of a strip mall in the Santa Ynez Valley and operated his own Santa Ynez Barbeque Catering Business where he and Helen met many famous people through their work and travels around the world. He was an outgoing, friendly, happy person and never met a stranger. He loved his way of life on the ranch and enjoyed riding his horses every day working the cattle. He was truly a cowboy. He also was an avid hunter and loved the beauty of the outdoors, especially the mountains. He served as President of the Sportsmen's Club and was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. Dee is survived by his wife (Helen McVeigh) and their only child, John R. McVeigh, both of whom reside in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonzo and Ollie McVeigh, grandparents Manuel and Addie Moore, Aunt Mae Faulkner, and three Uncles Dewey, Bob and Ulus Moore.
Dee will be missed by all who met and knew him.
Alice Ann Elliott
Alice Ann Elliott was born on April 20, 1934 in Ventura California. She was raised by her parents, Alice and Willian Flynn on Orella Ranch near Venadito Canyon, Goleta. She loved the ocean and often talked about her swims, as a child, at El Capitan and Refugio Beaches. She attended Santa Ynez Valley High School and later graduated from Santa Barbara Business College. Alice loved to travel so she decided to become a flight attendant. She earned her wings with American Airlines and was stationed in Dallas, Texas. In Dallas, she met her future husband, John Elliott, who was a chef at Neiman Marcus Restaurant, at the time. Although John was from Brooklyn, New York, they decided to return to California to raise a family. They were married at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Santa Barbara on June 25, 1962. Alice then returned to the Santa Ynez Valley to raise her two children, Barbara and Charles (which she considered her biggest accomplishment). Alice is best known as the co-owner of award-winning Ballard Store Restaurant, which she opened with husband John in 1972. After almost 30 years of restaurant ownership, Alice finally retired to enjoy reading, cooking and politics. She passed peacefully at home on May 22, 2018. She will be sadly missed by her husband (John), daughter (Barbara), son (Charles) and grandchildren (Chelsi, Chandler and Chaise Elliott). She requested her services be private and were held at Oak Cemetery, Ballard.

Dennis J. Floyd
Dennis J. Floyd died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the age of 68.
Dennis was born April 19, 1950, in Oakland, California, to Leon and Angelina Floyd. He was raised and educated in the Oakland area, graduating from St. Mary's College High School in 1968.
Shortly after graduation Dennis enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged 12 years later as a staff sergeant. He was employed as an air traffic controller in California and Nevada during his 20-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Aviation and photography were passions of Dennis. A resident of Lompoc since 2013, he was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 25 years Liz Floyd; daughter Christine Floyd of Beaumont, California; stepdaughter and her husband Lindsay and Don Schroeder of Lompoc; stepson and his husband David Vaughn and Jason Montoya of San Diego, California; grandsons Alex and Aidan Schroeder; and brothers Alan Floyd of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Gary Floyd of Henderson, Nevada.
The graveside funeral service with military honors will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 2pm in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Charlotte A. Lowsley
Charlotte Lowsley was born December 6, 1931, to Hirva and Virginia Clark in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She died on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Lompoc, California, at the age of 87.
As a young girl, Charlotte lived on the elk refuge just outside Jackson Hole as her father was the ranger in charge of the preserve. After graduating from Jackson Hole High School, she married Richard Jones, and they moved to Washington State where the first of their sons, Richard, was born. Soon afterward, they were blessed to have a second son, Duane. After a period of time, they relocated to Carpinteria, California, where their third son Jeffrey came into the world. Unfortunately, her husband Richard passed away suddenly, leaving Charlotte and their three sons to face the world. Young Richard left home and was on his own while Duane and Jeffrey stayed. Soon thereafter, Duane married Beverly.
Then along came James “Jim” Lowsley. Jim took Charlotte and Jeffrey to Omaha, Nebraska. Jim and Charlotte were married in December 1975. Jim adopted Jeffrey to be his son while Jeffrey was still a young man. They transferred to Great Falls, Montana, for a couple of years, and in 1981 returned to the Central Coast at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Charlotte held many jobs but loved retail sales because she was in contact with a number of people. She was always a “people person” and would lovingly look after their needs. After moving back to the Central Coast, she worked for 43 years in a gift shop in Solvang, retiring in 2012. She will be missed.
Charlotte is predeceased by her father and mother, her sisters Sally and Yvonne, and her only brother Dermont. She is also survived by her loving husband Jim, son Richard of Lompoc, son Duane of Houston, Texas, son Jeffrey of Lompoc, stepdaughter Ann of Lompoc, California, and stepson James of Eugene Oregon. She has a surviving sister, Virginia, of Bremerton, Washington.
Even though she loved flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in her name.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at 2 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary followed by a reception. A private interment will be held at Santa Barbara Cemetery.
Albert "Al" Junion Workman
Albert “Al” Junior Workman, 89, of Lompoc, California, died peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018.
Albert was born in Panguitch, Utah, on November 16, 1928, to Sam Clark Workman and Geneva (Winsor) Workman. He was the fourth of 13 children. He graduated from Valley High School in Orderville, Utah, and joined the United States Navy in 1948, where he was trained in Aviation Electronics. In March 1950, he met the love of his life, Margaret (Peg) Hed. They married September 2, 1950.
Al & Peg had three children, Linda, Ron, and Terry. Al worked as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry for Hughes Aircraft, North American Aviation, the Glen L. Martin Company, Rocketdyne, and Lockheed, where he retired in 1990.
Al was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two stake missions. He also served as a ward missionary, stake mission president, assistant high priest's group leader, counselor to two different bishops, and was part of a church emergency communications system of amateur radio operators. He counted as most rewarding his work with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and went on many campouts and outings with his grandsons.
Al was also an aspiring example of love and service to his family. He was handy at fixing and figuring out how things worked and used his skills to bless many. He had a green thumb, was gifted in math and engineering, and had a love for astronomy and nature. He loved to teach his children and grandchildren about the stars and planets while camping at Refugio Beach.
Al was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Joyce (Hed) Workman; sisters Eva Workman, Geneva Workman, Sheila (Gus) Buhl, Yvonne (Leonard) Heaton, Patsy (Jerry) Jensen; and brother Clark Merle (Lorraine) Workman. He is survived by his daughters Linda (Marty) Wolcott of Lompoc; Tiffany (Steven) Escobedo of Antelope; his son, Ronald (Linda) Workman of Pismo Beach; his twelve grandchildren, Rachel (Loyd) VanSandt, Aryn (Greg) Wolf, Joshua (Annamarie Zetmeir) Wolcott, Lucinda (Leland) Miller, Jessica (Robert) Walsh, Hannah Wolcott, Dustin (JaRele) Workman, Opal (Scott) Bauldry, Grant (Michelle Buss) Riley, Devin Riley, Hunter (Mila Hristovski) Riley, Jeremy Riley; fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018, from 8 am followed by a funeral service at 9 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1312 West Prune Avenue, Lompoc, California, with a graveside dedication following at 10:30 am at the Lompoc Cemetery.
Melvin John Kimlinger
Melvin John Kimlinger of Lompoc died on Monday, July 23, 2018, at the age of 64. Mel was born in Minnesota on March 7, 1954, to Nicholas and Genevive Lucas. He spent 40 years working for the United States Postal Service.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018, from 4 pm to 8 pm, with a service at 6:30 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 10 am, at La Purisima Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Mary Rowell
Mary Rowell, 54, of Lompoc passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2018, with her family by her side. She was born January 17, 1964 and raised in Lompoc. A 1982 graduate of Lompoc High School. She worked at Vandenberg during her career for Bechtel Engineering, Northrup Grumman, and Indyne. She was able to quit working to take care of her father in 2013.
She was diagnosed with AML (Leukemia) in 2015 and received an un-related stem cell transplant in 2016 that saved her life. She had been in remission for over 2+ years.
She was such a strong willed individual and an inspiration to all that knew her during her illness and recovery into remission.
As we all know, she was an avid cowgirl her whole life. She was putting on her cowgirl boots and swinging a rope before she could walk. She enjoyed Team Roping with her father Keith, and many friends. She earned numerous awards, belt buckles and saddles. She taught many young kids the pleasures of horsemanship. She was awarded the opportunity to compete at the Cow Palace in San Francisco for state finals during her senior High School year. When she wasn't trail riding or roping cattle with her horses “Bud” or “Thunder”, she enjoyed family camping vacations to the lake. She would often get “sea sick” when we towed our kids on the tube at the lake. She would trust a 1000lb animal (horse) with a mind of his own but didn't want her husband (Steve) to drive the boat so the tube that she and our 2 boys were on, would go outside the wake.
Mary is survived by Steve, her husband of 19yrs, sons; Justin and Chase, Mother in-law; Ann (Rick), Bother in-law; Trevor (Alison), nephews; Corey (Laura), and Brett, Aunt's; Mary, Jene, and Uncle; Donny (Sharon), Brother; Edward, Sister Sherrie (Doug), nephews; Brandon, Jacob and Mikayla.
She was preceded in death by her parents Keith and Joyce Brandon, and Uncle George Hall.
We would like to thank our family, friends and co-workers, that helped during her illness. We would also like to thank the unknown stem cell donor, Dr. Anthony Stein and his staff at City of Hope in Duarte Ca., Dr's and staff at Ridley-Tree Cancer Center and Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara.

Margaret Florence Torres
On Sunday, July 15, 2018, the Lord called Margaret Florence (Harrel) Torres, by name, to be with Him in Heaven. Words cannot express how much she was loved. She will now reside with her husband and family in God's glorious kingdom. She went peacefully, in her sleep, and was happy until her final day.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore “Teddy” Torres. He was the love of her life.
Born May 31, 1928, to the late Gordon and Mary Harrel (of Ada, Oklahoma), she is survived by her brother Dr. Richard Harrel and his wife Beverly Harrel. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Minnie Lou and her brother Gordon Franklin Harrel.
Margaret is also survived by her children Sherie Vest, Marilou O'Louglin, Jayson Grimmer, Danny Torres, Sr., and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored.
A special acknowledgment to her daughter Sherie Vest and husband Jim Vest for all the support and loving care they provided in her final years. This allowed her to maintain her independence and remain in her home until her final day.
Florence went to Horace Mann High School and then East Central Teacher's College in Ada, Oklahoma. She began her teaching career in 1952 in Texas. She taught Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. She loved being a teacher, and she loved children. She taught at Fillmore Elementary School in Lompoc, California, for many years.
She was an excellent seamstress and loved to crochet blankets for family. Her hobbies included swimming, reading (an avid reader!), word search books, Hallmark movies and playing piano. She took piano lessons for 14 years and had a passion for music. She loved her hometown, Lompoc, California, and was a regular at the local library. She always chose to be happy and greeted others with a big smile. Her love and sweet spirit will forever remain in our minds and hearts.
Her service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 12:00 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Lompoc Public Library.

Debra L. Berg
Debra L. Berg peacefully passed away on July 18, 2018 after valiantly battling a lengthy illness. Although we grieve the loss of our beloved Debbie, we feel comforted by the knowledge that she is no longer in pain.
Debra Berg is survived by her son Cameron Berg; sisters Pamela MacKenzie, Maryse Wasmanski, and Eileen Ogden; brother Don MacKenzie; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Crawford and Corrine MacKenzie.
She was a long-time resident of Lompoc, CA, arriving at the age of 14 in 1969. Debbie graduated class of ‘72 from Cabrillo High School. She then began her 35+ year career working for Santa Barbara County Superior Court System. During this career she earned respect, admiration, and love of many coworkers whom she encountered.
Sadly, she retired early due to health issues. She often shared anonymous interesting dramatic or funny work stories.
Many youth and young adults considered her their second mother. With humility and expecting nothing in return, she poured her heart into providing support, resources, encouragement, and guidance to these people; changing the direction of their lives.
This world has given up an angel who will surely be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 3 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel.

BILL JOHNSON AS EVERYONE KNEW HIM PASSED AWAY JULY 16, 2018. HE WAS 83 YEARS OLD, BORN IN WHITTER CALIF. TO JOHN AND OLETA JOHNSON HE WAS RAISED IN SOUTHERN CALIF. THEY MOVED TO SANTA BARBARA WHERE HE GRADUATED FROM SANTA BARBARA HIGH SCHOOL . HE THEN BEGAN HIS CAREER AT AGE 19 WITH STANDARD OIL CHEVRON IN LOMPOC WHERE HE HAD 2 GAS STATIONS ATER THAT IN THE 70'S HE CHANGED HIS PROFESSION AND BECAME A GRADUATE GEMOLOGIST-JEWELER OWNING JOHNSONS JEWELERS IN LOMPOC AND IN 1980 OPENING JOHNSONS JEWEL BOX IN SOLVANG UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT IN JAN. 2018. HE WAS AN AVID CAR COLLECTOR SPORTS FISHERMAN AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE VIKINGS IN SOLVANG. HE ATTENDED MANY CAR SHOWS WITH EDNA BROCK AND TRAVELED THE US TO HIS PLACE IN CABO SAN LUCAS WHERE HE LOVED FISHING. HE IS SURVIVED BY THREE CHILDREN MELANIE SMITH HUSBAND MARK TWO GRANDSONS CHRISTOPHER AND JASON SMITH TWO GREAT GRANDSONS KADE AND ZANE SMITH ALL OF KILL DEVIL HILLS NC BRAD JOHNSON WIFE MOLLY TWO GRANDSONS NICOLAS AND GRANT JOHNSON OF MONTEREY MELISSA PALMER GRANDSON MATTHEW PALMER OF SOLVANG HE WAS PROCEEDED IN DEATH BY HIS GRANDSON ADAM PALMER. SERVICES ARE PRIVATE PER BILLS WISHES.

Steven Thomas Elliott was born in July, 1947 in Sacramento, California to Steve Elliott and Anita Wright Elliott. Steve passed away suddenly on July 16 in Buellton ,California. He was the beloved husband of Anna Elliott, father of David Elliott and wife, Melissa and their three beautiful girls, Charlotte, Amelia, Isla. He leaves a sister, Judy Mogan. He was a Lompoc High School Graduate after which he joined the Navy at 17. He worked for ITT Federal Services Corporation and Indyne for thirty years. He loved life, reading, movies, tennis,and cars.. He was a good friend and always willing to help others.
